15-year-old faces murder charges


SUTTON, Vt. (AP) – A 15-year-old boy will be charged with murder in the shooting death of a Sheffield man, police said.

Vermont State Police received a 911 call at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday from 144 Freedom Road, reporting a shooting within the mobile home.

Police found the body of Jacob A. McDowell, 24, of Sheffield, who had died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

A 15-year-old boy, who lives in the house and whose identity was not released, was arrested and held $50,000 bail, police said.

Two witnesses were in the home at the time of the shooting, Vermont State Police Detective J.P. Sinclair said.

The victim and the accused were involved in a dispute before the shooting, police said.
