OXFORD — Fire of unknown origin destroyed a barn Monday afternoon at Richardson Landscape Service on Station Road, Fire Chief Paul Hewey said. No one was injured.

Hewey said owner Phil Richardson was across the road from his home at 104 Station Road when one of his children discovered the fire next to their home. A family member called 911, the chief said.

A goat and chickens were rescued from the burning building, which he estimated was 40 by 80 feet. It was older and went up quick, he said.

The cause is undetermined because of the extent of damage, Hewey said.

The barn was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and heat melted some siding on the house, but crews were able to get keep them from burning the home, he said. The barn, which had little inside, was insured, according to the chief.

Oxford Fire Department had help from Norway, Paris, Harrison, Minot, Mechanic Falls, Poland and Otisfield firefighters. Tankers  hauled water to the scene.
