5-year-old boy victim of N.H. fire

BERLIN, N.H. (AP) – A 5-year-old boy was one of the three people who died in the Berlin fire that destroyed a group of apartments, investigators said Friday.

Jennie Duval, the deputy state medical examiner, identified the boy as Johnathan Ellis. The others were identified as Sarah Whitman, 26, and Mark Cellupica, 46. All three died as a result of smoke inhalation, Duval said. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Fire investigators believe they know where the huge apartment building fire started this week, but they’re still trying to figure out how.

Tuesday night’s fire also left about a dozen people homeless.

Deputy State Fire Marshal John Raymond said the fire started in the living area of a first-floor apartment in one of the destroyed buildings. He said it may take several weeks to determine what sparked the flames.

Raymond said there is no reason to believe the fire was suspicious.
