$54K in mistaken bonuses given

ALTON, N.H. (AP) – More than $54,000 in bonuses mistakenly went to 17 teachers.

The stipends had been given during the last six years and were the result of an accounting error. Alton Central School and Prospect Mountain High School teachers received the bonuses under a system voters are considering ending in March. It would cost voters $40,000 to buy-out teachers enrolled in the program.

Accountants noted as officials prepared for upcoming contract negotiations.
