Looking back
• There was an unusually large number of intoxicated men on the street Saturday evening and some of them appeared greatly interested in the Congressional contest. It was alleged that "wet goods" were being passed out freely Saturday night (for political purposes) and that it was not all gone Sunday. Sunday afternoon a quartet of intoxicated men walked up Ash Street, made loud talk to persons whom they met and turned down Middle Street. They were able to walk a staggering gait, but did not appear at all certain of their footing.

Students share creativity with citizens
AUBURN - Walking into City Hall is just a bit more pleasant these days, thanks to vibrant artwork created by local middle school students displayed in entryway cases.

Belting out the blues
The Eric Green Party will play the blues live Saturday, May 10, at She Doesn't Like Guthries, 115 Middle St., Lewiston. Band members, from left, are Jeff Merrow, Paul Bosse, Jailbird Cody and Eric Green. The show starts at 8 p.m. There is no cover. LEWISTON - Museum L-A's successful "Portraits & Voices: Workers of Seven Mills" exhibit will end its run Saturday, May 10, as the museum prepares for its next special exhibit.

Rave 'n Rage will rock Colisee
LEWISTON - Dead Season, a popular band hailing from Oxford, will headline Rave 'n Rage 2008 Saturday, May 24, at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. All told, eight local bands will rock the stage.

Rwandan filmmaker to discuss '94 genocide
LEWISTON - Bates College will commemorate the 14th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda with a screening of a new documentary film by genocide survivor Gilbert Ndahayo. It will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, in Chase Hall Lounge, 56 Campus Ave.

Caribbean beach party
On Saturday, May 10, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Holly's Own Deli & Wine Bar will put on a Caribbean beach party featuring the steel drum band Steve M & the Chicks with Sticks on its newly renovated patio, weather-permitting. Members of the group are Steve McManus, Diane Mawhinney, Jan Additon and Jill Longstaff. There is no cover. Holly's is at 84 Court St., Auburn.
