So much is happening in sports right now that I'm not sure I can touch on all of it without going into a Buzz Bissinger-like tirade. Here goes anyway:
Bobcats shine in NCAAs
DURHAM, N.H. - Bates sophomore Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan of Topsham finished second in the shot put with a personal-record mark of 46 feet and 7.25 inches, automatically qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships and leading the Bobcats at the all-divisions Open New England Outdoor Championships Saturday.
Black Bears roll
DURHAM, N.H. - The University of Maine track teams had outstanding performances on the second day of the New England Track and Field Championships.
Let the games begin
LEWISTON - Bates College tennis coach Paul Gastonguay sat back on a raised chair. A large coffee dangled from his fingertips as he looked out over the Wallach Tennis Complex at Bates. Helpers - members of his team and others who took a short-term class with him - scurried around on the pavement below, watering a placing flower pots, hanging signs and moving chairs.
Global warming or insanity?
Back in February, a coalition of Fish and Game Clubs and conservation organizations from around the country petitioned our U.S. Congress to pass climate control legislation. New Hampshire, one of the many states involved, issued a press release that read in part:

OXFORD - It didn't take long for the cream to rise to the top. Defending track champion Travis Adams may have suffered mechanical trouble two weeks ago when the ACT Late Model tour was in town, but he had his ducks in a row for the regular season points opener.
