A vehicle driven by Janice A. Merrill, 59, of Merrill Road, Dixfield, sustained about $2,000 damage when Merrill apparently lost control as she was driving west on Route 2. The vehicle tumbled over an embankment and struck a tree. She was treated at the scene for minor injuries by Med-Care Ambulance Service.
Andrew LaPointe, 18, Swain Road, Rumford, was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence as a result of an accident that occurred on April 15 as he was driving west along Route 2. He is scheduled to appear in 11th District Court, Northern Oxford Division, on Aug. 8.
Brian M. Gastin, 27, of Strawberry Hill Road, Rochester, N.H., was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence at 1:15 a.m., April 9, on Weld Road, and transported to Oxford County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in 11th District Court, Northern Oxford Division, on June 6.
Police are investigating several vandalism incidents that may be related. Police Chief Richard Pickett said someone removed the top layer of bricks lining the T.W. Kelly Dirigo Middle School sign on Weld Street sometime April 20. They were repaired by SAD 21’s custodial staff. The bricks were again removed and a bottle smashed on the sign sometime the night of April 25. On the night of April 20, someone damaged the street sign marking Dix Avenue and Brackett Street. Anyone who may have seen anything during the nights of April 20 and April 25 is asked to phone the Police Department.
