Adult ed offering art classes

WILTON — Mt. Blue RSD Adult & Community Education will offer three art classes with art instructor Barbara Hathaway, Painter of Sunset.

Art of Pastels starts Monday, March 5, for four sessions, 6-7:30 p.m. at the Hathaway Art Studio in Wilton. Soft and hard pastels will be used to give an interesting effect that can be detailed with pastel pencils. Colors are built up, layering and texturing the elements to make the composition realistic. $45 fee and class is for beginners to semi-pro.

Watercolor Art begins Tuesday, March 6, 6-7:30 p.m., five sessions for $65, at the Hathaway Art Studio. Students learn how to achieve pleasing compositions and control color mixing by the Michael Wilcox painting technique. A painting style develops as the student practices mixing colors to make a vibrant sunset. Demonstrations on brush strokes, textures and washes makes it easy to paint with watercolor.

Acrylic Painting begins Thursday, March 1, 6-7:30 p.m., five sessions for $65, at the Hathaway Art Studio. Acrylic Painting dries quickly and can be painted over, which makes acrylic an easy way of painting. Techniques of acrylic are similar to oil but water is used to clean acrylic paint. Progressive stages form elements in a painting. Demo and art tips included for each painting style.

Materials are needed for each class. Call for a list.

Other classes can be added by request, schedule permitting. To register for any of these art classes call Adult Education at 778-3460 or Hathaway at 645-3449 or [email protected]
