1923 – 2014
FARMINGTON — Aletha Marie Paradis, 90, of Farmington, passed away late Saturday, Feb. 8, at Pinewood Terrace with her family by her side.
She was born April 29, 1923, in Farmington, a daughter of Arthur W. and Minnie (Webber) Porter and received her education in New Sharon schools. Aletha was a veteran of the United States Army from Sept. 12, 1944, to June 30, 1946, which was something that she was quite proud of.
On April 19, 1947, she married William A. Paradis in Farmington. He passed Oct. 1, 2013. She was employed for several years at Farmington Shoe Co. where she worked along side her husband and her sisters, Althea, Ina, Glenna and Harriet. She later worked at Emery’s Fashion in downtown Farmington prior to her retirement. She was an active communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and served on the Altar Guild for many years.
Aletha enjoyed going to barn dances, cooking, gardening, bowling, sewing, knitting and crocheted numerous afghans for her family. She hosted many picnics and barbecues for family and friends.
She is survived by her children, William and his wife, Mary, of Farmington, Nadine Demillo and her husband, Nick, of Jay and Nancy Matson and her husband, Rick, of Farmington; two grandsons, Andrew Paradis and his wife, Tia, and Matthew Paradis; seven great-grandchildren, Bennett, Addison, Abriel, Aiden, Carter, Mahlon and Terra; a brother, Arthur Porter Jr. of Farmington Falls.
She was predeceased by an infant daughter; and her siblings, Keith, Arnold, Freddie, Earsel, Ina, Glenna, Lora, Harriet and Althea.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Pinewood Terrace for the loving care that both Aletha and Bill received.
