FORT KENT — Alexis “Sonny/Alex” F. Cote, 73, of Sinclair, passed away Thursday, Sept. 21, in Fort Kent after a brief illness.
Born on June 3, 1944, he was the son of Alexis J. and Yvonne Cote. He grew up in Auburn/Lewiston and graduated from St. Dominic’s High School as a hockey standout. He graduated from St. Anselm’s College with a degree in philosophy and was active in student government. Alex then continued his education at McGill University in Montreal with an emphasis in economics.
After returning to Maine as a commercial realtor he started his own roofing business which became Commercial Roofing Systems, Inc. He settled in Saco with his family and enjoyed many years of watching his children’s wide variety of sporting events. Sonny also found time for hunting and fishing, especially in northern Maine. His love of the Maine wilderness drew him to Sinclair where he owned and operated Lakeside Lodge.
Alex had been a Rotarian, Mason, Shriner and a registered master Maine guide. He spent a short time playing hockey for a semi-pro team, spent summers during the 1960s as an Old Orchard Beach lifeguard, and later enjoyed skiing at Sugarloaf and golfing at BSCC in Saco. Family and friends will remember Sonny as quite a story and joke teller. He was a wealth of information and was always eager to share his knowledge.
He is survived by a son, Erik Cote (wife, Laurentine) from Barrington, N.H.; a daughter, Emily Ring (husband, Phillip) from Basalt, Colo.; their mother, Bonnie Cote from Old Orchard Beach; and a granddaughter, Alexis Ring.
Much appreciation to his Long Lake friends (Kurt, Wendy, Kathy, Early, Jason and Kenny) for their kindness and support.
