American Legion Post 111 announces events


TURNER — American Legion Post 111 will award a $500 scholarship to an outstanding Leavitt graduate and in June will send Dalton Bouchles, a Leavitt junior, to Dirigo Boys State.

Veterans will be honored at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the Turner Center Memorial and at 11 a.m. in North Turner. All are invited to attend the ceremonies. A flag disposal ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on June 18 at the old Leavitt Institute parking lot by the Post, along with the Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Anyone wishing to dispose of a flag should contact Harris Bradeen at 225-3907.

Donations for the Leavitt Scholarship Fund will be collected on May 20 and 21 at the Town Transfer Station. Contributions of bottles and cans can be placed in the marked receptacles at the local redemption centers.

Turner Memorial Post 111 will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the old Leavitt Institute. Anyone wishing to join us in our quest to serve veterans and community should call Ed Lepage at 224-7274.
