American Red Cross lifeguard training offered at the YWCA


LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will offer two separate sessions of American Red Cross lifeguard training. Only one entire session is needed to receive certification.

The dates and times for the first session include: Friday, June 4, from 4 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, June 5, from 1 to 9 p.m.; Sunday, June 6, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Monday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The second session will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday to Monday, June 19 to 21.

Students will learn the knowledge and skills essential to prevent, and if necessary, respond to aquatic emergencies appropriately. The course will include American Red Cross CPR/AED for professional rescuers and standard first aid.

Participants must be at least 15 years of age and complete a 300-yard swim and timed deep water object removal prerequisite to starting the course. The prerequisite tests will take place on the first day of classes.
