It’s an ‘An Inconvenient Truth’

It was an interesting story about Ann Coulter’s book being put in T.L. Mikesell’s mailbox with an invitation to read it, repent and reform (Dec. 13).

I think Coulter is arrogant, supercilious and intolerant, which puts her in league with Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly (Fox News). They never met or heard of a Democrat they didn’t abominate.

Mikesell put out signs protesting the war in Iraq. There are many who protest that war. That does not make them unpatriotic. It shows grave concern for the many being killed and injured in the ill-begotten and disastrous war. That and a concern for the lack of progress in rebuilding that devastated country, as well.

It is encouraging to see senators in Washington from both parties ignoring the aisle and preparing to work together in a bipartisan way to address the many problems this nation is saddled with. Finally, our country is turning in the right direction. As has been clearly proven during the last six years, the attitude of “my way or the highway” does not accomplish much.

Our country should reassume a role of world leader. Haughtiness, torture and closed minds do not belong in a democracy.

In keeping with the spirit of the season, Mikesell could give the donor a book in return. Perhaps Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth.”
