Anna May Smith


AUBURN – Anna May Smith, 83, of Farmington died May 21, at Hospice House.

She was born in Jonesborough, Ark. on May 2, 1923, the daughter of Arthur S. and Grace M. (Fisher) LeMay. She was educated in the schools of Arkansas and moved to Maine in 1953, where she has resided since. She worked for Forster Mfg. Co. in Dryden for more than 20 years, retiring in 1985. She also worked various jobs throughout the area. She was a member of United Paperworkers Union. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading murder mysteries, gardening, walking, and building stone walls.

She is survived by three daughters, Bobbie Tilton of Wilton, Leona Ross of Industry and Judy Schmitt and her husband, Peter, of Dryden; one son, Michael Shirley and his wife, Jane, of Kingfield; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; three nieces, Kathleen Brown and Dody Phillips from South Carolina and Ruby Roberts from Louisiana.

She was predeceased by two sons, O’Neal and Gregory; a daughter, Joanne; and brothers, Harold and Harbert.
