Anna Walker

1949 – 2016

AUBURN — Anna Walker, 66, of Mechanic Falls passed away peacefully at the Hospice House on Monday, June 20, with her family by her side.

She was born Anna Loretta Churchill in Lewiston on Sept. 30, 1949, the daughter of the late Lovell and Roma Rich Churchill.

Anna graduated from Mechanic Falls High School with the Class of 1967 and because she always desired to be a secretary, she continued her education at Auburn Maine School of Commerce, later renamed Mid-State College. Upon completing her courses there, she married Gaston (Butch) LaFlamme, and together they had a beautiful daughter, Stacey, before separating. It was during this same time that Anna was hired by The Concord Group Insurance Co. in Auburn, where she worked for nearly 30 years, having worked her way up to Inside Adjuster, of which she was very proud. When she left her job there, it was so she could help take care of her three young grandchildren, who were, and remained to always be, the pride and joy of her life.

In August 1996, Anna married Milton Walker, after having been together for 10 years. Together they enjoyed bowling, cross-country skiing and traveling in their motor home. They traveled to Canada, Florida, Missouri, Virginia, Georgia and New York, as well as local places. They also enjoyed taking bus trips with friends to places such as Foxwoods and Atlantic City.

One of Anna’s most favorite places during the summer was Green Pond, where they would park the motor home for a few days at a time and enjoy the pond. She loved to swim and ride the paddle boat around the pond with Milt, looking for turtles and fish, and saying hello to neighbors. She would always invite her sister and brother-in-law to come swim or bring their kayaks. Anna also loved having her great-nephews and great-niece over for the day, when they were visiting from New Hampshire. And she always made sure she had ice cream for them.

Anna was a much-loved member of the community and will be greatly missed. She and Milt often would walk to the center of Mechanic Falls to have a meal at Kathy’s Diner — a favorite place of theirs to eat and meet with good friends.

She is survived by her husband, Milton Walker of Mechanic Falls; a daughter, Stacey York and son-in-law, David, of Mechanic Falls; one sister, Rena Berry and brother-in-law, Walter, of Mechanic Falls; three grandchildren, Matthew and Derek York of Mechanic Falls, and Ciera York of Fredericksburg, Va.; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Anna was predeceased by her parents, Lovell and Roma Rich Churchill.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff for the outstanding support and care Anna was given these past several days at the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice. Also, the several wonderful nurses and doctors who took such great care of her when she was in the ICU, both at Central Maine Medical Center and Maine Medical Center. We also wish to thank Anna’s many friends and family, whom she loved and who loved her throughout her life. Thank you for your visits, prayers and well wishes.
