Anniversary marks start to lecture series


PARIS – The McLaughlin Garden will conduct its 10th anniversary winter lecture series at 4 p.m. beginning Wednesday, Jan. 10.

The lectures are free and no preregistration is required; however, the house does have limited seating.

Therefore, attendees are asked to call ahead. Additional parking is available at the garden gate on Western Avenue and at the courthouse one block from the garden. There will be snow days allotted for each lecture.

On Jan. 10 the topic will be “Maximizing Perennial Flower Power,” presented by Steve Palmer, Plainview Farm. Located in North Yarmouth, Plainview Farm boasts more than 2,000 varieties of perennials and carries many types of shrubs and annuals. Snow date is 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17.

On Wednesday, Jan. 24, the focus will be “Underused Landscape Shrubs,” with Roger Roberge, Provencher’s Nursery. Located in Lewiston, Provencher’s Nursery provides a variety of plants, shrubs and trees as well as garden design consultations and services.

The lecture will feature a slide show and a talk on many underused shrubs and plants in garden design. Snow date is 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31.

The lectures will continue through March.
