Apartments on fire at Holden complex for elderly and disabled residents

HOLDEN — A big fire has broken out at the Holden Square Apartments and more than one apartment is on fire, a Penobscot Regional Communications Center dispatcher said at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

The fire at 41 Upper Dedham Road was reported shortly after 9 p.m. but few other details were available. Multiple agencies are at the scene.

Bangor firefighter Andrew Emery posted to Twitter from the scene, saying two people were injured, one by fire and one by a medical condition.

He did not say the extent of the injuries.

The fire, which will displace many of the residents for at least the rest of the night, was knocked down by about 9:40 p.m. by crews from Holden, Brewer, Dedham, Hampden, Orrington and Bangor, Emery said.

Holden Square Apartments is a 24-unit affordable housing complex for elderly and disabled residents.
