PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A new report says the life expectancy for Maine men is highest in Lincoln County, while Maine women live longest in Cumberland County.
A new study published in the journal "Population Health Metrics" breaks down life expectancy rates for every county in the country in 2007.
According to the study, the highest life expectancy for men is in Lincoln County, where the rate is 77.3 years. The lowest rate comes in at 73.1 years, in Washington County.
Among women, Cumberland County has the highest life expectancy rate of 81.7 years, while Somerset County has the lowest rate, 79.8 years.

Deceiving numbers
A perfect example of the time honored phrase "Figures lie and liars figure"
A long life expectancy in Maine is more a result of old people moving here than an actual increase in the number of years people are living.
All these numbers mean is that young people are abandoning the state, especially the midcoast and downeast areas, and retirees are taking their place.
