WASHINGTON (AP) — A White House official says President Barack Obama will call for a five-year freeze in non-security, discretionary spending during his State of the Union address.

The official says the proposal will be part of the president's plans to reduce the deficit that he will outline in Tuesday's primetime address. The official says Obama will also call for lawmakers to back a five-year plan put forth by Defense Secretary Robert Gates to save $78 billion in defense spending.
Obama is under pressure from the public and lawmakers to cut spending. Several Republican lawmakers have proposed cutting $100 billion from Obama's budget for the current year.
The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly ahead of the president's speech.

More word soup. Reducing the "deficit" means reducing how much borrowing our gov't does everyday, and has NOTHIG to do with debt, other than it may slow "slightly" how much is added. They seem to interchange the words "debt" amd "deficit" kind of glibly. The bills, eventually are going to be due. Spending, is now "investing," etc. He states the results of the November elections was a lack of communication, even though he risscrossed the country and the globe communicating those ideas. The November elections were about eliminating deficit AND debt, not word games. He is one of the Professors of Logado.

Obamas freeze on current spending levels dont cut it. He has increased spending by over 20% in last two years. We need to go back to 2006-2008 spending levels to really put a dent in deficit. Obamas middle name should be spender. Its all smoke and mirrors with this guy.

I just read the entire speech a national journal. He is doubling down on the spending and calling it "investing." What a load of crap this precedent hands out to his underlings. He must think we are so stoopid. I seriously question anyone who supports this regime.
