CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine (AP) — Maine's Sugarloaf ski area hopes to reopen a lift that failed in late December, injuring eight skiers.
Load tests were being performed Friday on the chairlift that derailed on Dec. 28, causing the skiers to fall to the snow below.
If the test results are favorable, Sugarloaf hopes to reopen the lift on Saturday, the start of the Presidents' Day holiday weekend.
Spokesman Ethan Austin tells The Associated Press that it won't be known with certainty when the lift will open until the tests are completed.
