AUGUSTA — Award-winning Maine illustrator and art teacher Rebekah Raye will kick off the Friends of the Maine State Museum’s annual “Highlights at the Maine State Museum” series with a workshop and book signing on Saturday, Feb. 25.
The 11 a.m. presentation is free.
Raye, who illustrated children’s books “The Very Best Bed” and “Thanks to the Animals,” has shared her gift of art with students of all ages for years. She strives to show how ideas become reality and how students of any ability can express themselves through art.
During her workshop, “The Art of Illustration,” Raye will show examples of art she created when she was young. She will also discuss her two children’s books and explain the step-by-step process of creating illustrations for a story.
Workshop participants will be encouraged to create their own story characters using the materials provided.
A resident of Blue Hill, Raye has a bachelor’s degree in art education from the University of Maine and has been teaching in studio workshops for 25 years. Besides illustrating stories and teaching art, she creates bird and animal paintings and sculpture.
The Maine State Museum is in the State House Complex off State Street. For more information, call 287-2301 or visit www.mainestatemuseum.org.
