Arthur F. Bennett


RUMFORD – Arthur F. Bennett, 69, of Swift Avenue, died quietly at home on Sunday, Jan. 21, with his family.

He was born Oct. 24, 1937, in Watertown, N.Y., son of Carl and Dorothy (Cole) Bennett. He graduated from Watertown High School, Class of 1955, attended SUNY Plattsburgh and graduated from USM.

He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 30 years of service, taught at Old Orchard Beach High School in the arts and technology department, until his retirement in 1997. He operated Art’s Work handyman business, while living in Portland.

He was active for many years in Deering Lodge 183, AF and AM, Scottish Rite and Kora Temple Shrine, served as a volunteer with Portland History Docents at Victoria Mansion, Portland Players in South Portland and recently at Rumford Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn F. (Swett) Bennett; daughters, Carol Bennett Bolden of Las Vegas, Nev., and Whitney Bennett Brichetto, and husband, David, of New Gloucester; grandchildren, Taylor Bolden of Las Vegas and David Jr. and Renee Brichetto of New Gloucester; brother, Robert L. Bennett of Clayton, N.Y.; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
