Artisan breads will be focus of cooking class

LEWISTON — Dara Reimers, world renowned bread baking Olympian and owner of The Bread Shack in Auburn, will instruct the May installment of the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center Cliff Notes to Culinary School.

Reimers has tailored the course for seasoned and passionate bakers as well as those folks who have an eye and a taste for delicious sourdough breads. She will share the key ingredients, steps and techniques in making artisan bread at home. Participants will get to mix, shape, bake, taste and take dough home to bake fresh.

The class will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center of Maine, 208 Bates St. Cost is a sliding scale of $15 to $20. Participants should register in advance by calling the Nutrition Center at 513-3847 or e-mail nutritioncenter@stmarysmaine.com.

Cliff Notes to Culinary School is a culinary series for passionate and seasoned cooks. Food professionals share tips of the trade in gourmet cuisine using local, seasonal and healthy ingredients. Proceeds benefit the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center’s Community Cooking Programs.
