Artists explore being human


TURNER – “What does it mean to be human?” That’s the question that 27 artists tackled in an art exhibit opening April 20 at the Turner Center for the Arts. An artist’s reception, including poetry readings and live music, will be held 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 23.

The juried show of 39 works includes oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, sculpture, photographs, woodcarving, prints and mixed media work.

On display in the Art Cellar community room is “The Artists Choice” show with more than 55 works including paintings, mixed media, photographs and archival prints.

The “What it Means to be Human” exhibit will remain on display through June 3.

The Turner Center for the Arts is at 98 Matthews Way. It is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. For more information call 225-3115 or go to the Web site, The center offers courses and workshops.
