AUBURN — The Auburn Community Concert Band has announced a new scholarship opportunity for one graduating senior in the central Maine area. As part of their 30th anniversary celebration, the local concert band will award one member of the class of 2011 a $500 scholarship.
Requirements for eligibility include acceptance to a two- or four-year college, university, technical school or music conservatory in the fall of 2011; a grade average of 82 or better for three years; demonstrated community or volunteerism; and applicant is in good standing with high school and all departments. To apply, interested applicants must submit a completed scholarship application, a letter of recommendation from a music instructor or other teacher, and a brief essay outlining their passion for music and how they intend to share that passion with others.
Scholarship applications can be downloaded from www.auburncommunityband.com. The Auburn Community Concert Band will notify the recipient, then formally present the award letter to the recipient during an ACCB concert performance this summer.
For the past 29 years, members of the Auburn Community Concert Band have shared their love and passion for music with Androscoggin County. This summer’s first performance of the 45-member band’s 11-week concert series is scheduled for June 15 at Festival Plaza on Main Street. A different program of music is planned at this location for each Wednesday evening beginning at 7 p.m., through Aug. 24. Admission to all concerts is free. In case of inclement weather, performances are to be held inside the ballroom of the Hilton Garden Inn, Great Falls Plaza.
