Auburn gets state OK to add an hour to Wednesdays to make up snow days

AUBURN — The school district will get the state’s OK to add an hour of teaching time to Wednesdays as a way to chip at snow days, Superintendent Katy Grondin said Friday.

The district had been facing nine snow days before turning Friday’s scheduled workshop day into a regular day at the last minute.

Five snow days are built into the regular school schedule.

With the new lengthened Wednesdays, and with no more snow days, school should get out for students on June 20 and for staff on June 22, Grondin said.

Under the new Wednesday plan, from March 29 to June 7, elementary students will be released at 12:30 p.m., middle school students at 3 p.m. and high school students at 3:10 p.m.

Additionally, on May 31, elementary school students will have school that day until 4 p.m.

Grondin said she expects to receive a letter from the Department of Education commissioner confirming approval next week.
