Auburn synagogue to offer adult education courses


AUBURN — A series of adult education classes will be offered at Temple Shalom from Feb. 27 through May 8. The classes will be held on Thursdays, the same class being offered at 9 a.m. and at 7 p.m., to accommodate the schedules of those who wish to learn.

This will be the last adult education offerings of Rabbi Hillel Katzir at Temple Shalom. Katzir, who has been the spiritual leader of Temple Shalom since 2003, will be leaving at the end of May.

Most of the topics to be offered have been the subject of Katzir’s adult education courses in the years he has been at Temple Shalom. Members of the synagogue have requested that he reprise these topics in his final series of classes.

The classes to be offered are as follows:

Feb. 27: The Role of Angels in Judaism.

March 6: Understanding Christianity from a Jewish Perspective.


March 13: Comparing and Contrasting the Jewish and Christian Bibles.

March 20: The Biblical Books of the Prophets.

April 3: The Biblical Books of the Writings.

April 10: Women in the Bible 1.

April 24: Women in the Bible 2.

May 1: Jewish Views of Life after Death.

May 8: An Introduction to Non-dual Judaism.

May 15: An Introduction to Kabbalah.

The classes are free and open to the public. All the classes will be held at Temple Shalom, 74 Bradman St. RSVPs are requested for the evening sessions, by calling 786-4201 or by email to [email protected] RSVP is not necessary for the morning sessions.
