Auditions set for Theatre’s ‘Pinafore’

MONMOUTH – The Theater At Monmouth will be holding auditions for area residents who would like to appear in a fall production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic operetta “H.M.S. Pinafore” on Monday, July 30, beginning at 6 p.m. at Cumston Hall in Monmouth. Come join in the fun of Monmouth’s very popular fall production.

The Theater At Monmouth’s “Once Upon A Mattress” continues the fall tradition of combining professional and amateur actors in an entertaining show. The performances will be held Sept. 28-30 and Oct. 4-7. The production is being directed by TAM veteran director Jeri Pitcher. Marcia Gallagher of Hallowell will serve as the Music Director, and Miranda Libkin will be the choreographer.

As many as 20 experienced and inexperienced actors who can sing are needed for the show. A love of singing is required, and an ability to read music or experience singing in parts is helpful, but not required. There are no roles available for children under the age of 16.

The rehearsal schedule is very quick and will require those cast to work at learning their roles at home as well as at rehearsal. A couple of chorus rehearsals will be scheduled per week during the weeks of Aug. 27 and Sept. 3. Chorus members should expect to be called for at least four weekend and/or evening rehearsals during the weeks of Sept. 10 and 17, and every night the week before opening, except Monday, Sept. 24.

There is flexibility for conflicts with rehearsals, but participants should be available for most rehearsals and all performances before accepting a role.

Those wishing to audition should prepare a song, if possible, and bring sheet music to the audition. An accompanist will be provided.

Those who don’t have a song will learn a chorus from the show during the audition process. Those wishing to be considered for principle roles should prepare a song and a brief monologue.

Those auditioning will be seen on a first come, first served basis. Auditioners should plan at least a half an hour for the audition.

In addition to needing performers for the show, those interested in technical positions are sought. Specifically, the theater is looking for a local resident to serve in several technical capacities for the show, including set and lighting design, stage manager, and technical crew.
