FREEPORT — Freeport Family Performing Arts has announced the call for auditions of “Cinderella: The Story You Never Knew!” adapted for the stage by Nick Papageorgio. This production is based on the children’s story but with a twist. Directed by Tim Ryan and produced by special arrangement with Classics on Stage! of Chicago, the show will be presented in April.
As with the traditional story, this adaption tells the story of Cinderella who is treated as a slave by her selfish stepfamily. She dreams of going to the Prince’s ball and gets her wish courtesy of her fairy godmother, who does the pumpkin-into-coach bit, then delivers the requisite “be home by midnight” warning. Thoroughly enchanting the prince at the ball, our heroine hightails it at midnight, leaving a glass slipper behind. However, this version of the story is seen through the eyes of the castle’s accountant Seymour whose family has worked for Cinderella’s family for generations. Seymour is secretly in love with Cinderella but she rebuffs his feelings as she must save her family’s estate and her inheritance from her wicked stepfamily.
Auditions will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3 and from 6:30-9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4 at the Freeport Performing Arts Center, 30 Holbrook Street. Auditions are open to everyone from ages 7-years-old to adult. Entire families are encouraged to audition and participate. Those auditioning should be prepared to read from the script. Everyone auditioning will be offered a speaking role; no experience required.
