Auxiliary gives back to communities


LISBON – Department of Maine Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary State President Jane Poulin of Lisbon has received word from National Commander Gary Kurpius on the final facts and figures of the community service program.

The information was obtained from department (states and their territories) reports, which indicated post and auxiliary activities completed from May 1, 2006, to April 30, 2007.

The Department of Maine reports 120,781 of volunteered hours at a cost of $2,267,059. The amount of money spend and/or donated to complete activities on the national level was $68,105,226, with Maine donating $831,480.25.

VFW Past State Commander Rose Marie Lane of Lisbon served as the 2006 VFW community service chairwoman for Commander Thomas Lussier of Portland. Theresa Champagne of Sanford served as community service chairwoman for 2006 Auxiliary President Linda Brackett of Wilton.

Poulin said community service is done to ensure that life is made a little better for those who are less fortunate.
