Awards presented at MD walk banquet
RUMFORD – The Mountain Valley Walk Committee of the March of Dimes held its awards banquet on July 8 at the River Valley Tech Center. Awards were presented to the teams that participated in the walk and the top walkers.
The Virginia Walkers was the top placing team, collecting more than $3,000 and it was presented a platinum level plaque.
Mykayla Conley from that team was presented a certificate for being the top youth walker.
Three teams were awarded gold level plaques, having raised more than $1,000: Hannaford, Oxford Federal Credit Union and the Rumford Hospital.
Certificates were presented to the following teams: Jacob’s Angels, Mountain Valley Middle School, Peru Walkers, Dixfield Walkers, Hope Association and Mexico One Stop, each of which raised up to $500.
Daryl Simard was honored for being the top walker. Simard walks for the Hannaford team and works all year to raise money for the March of Dimes. He has walked in WalkAmerica to help premature babies for the last 24 years. In addition to being given a plaque for top walker, he was presented with an award by Dave Duguay, manager of Hannaford, for being their team’s top walker.
The Walk Committee said local merchants donated door prizes, Rumford Hospital for provided the kick-off breakfast and Hannaford provided food for the banquet. Jacob White is the ambassador child this year.
