No bail in 1994 Bridgton slaying

PORTLAND (AP) – A Bridgton man charged with killing a neighbor in her home 12 years ago was ordered held without bail on Thursday.

Michael Hutchinson, 31, was returned to the Cumberland County Jail after a brief appearance before Superior Court Justice Thomas Warren. Hutchinson entered a plea of not guilty, and Warren ordered him held without bail pending a formal bail hearing at a later date.

Hutchinson, a self-employed mason, grew up in Bridgton, but there’s no indication that he had more than casual contact with the victim, Crystal Perry, police say. Hutchinson was 19 at the time Perry was fatally stabbed in May 1994.

Hutchinson was indicted by a grand jury after he was linked to the crime through DNA evidence found at the crime scene in Perry’s home. The body of Perry, who was 30 when she died, was discovered by her 12-year-old daughter, Sarah, who heard the attack from her bedroom.
