WEST PARIS — The price tag for repairs to the town’s baseball field will be the main topic at a special selectmen meeting Thursday.
The session is set for 5 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Town Office, 25 Kingsbury St., to discuss maintenance of the Mann Complex ball field.
Repair costs are in flux and Town Manager John White said the current, worst-case figure to recontour both infield and outfield is $35,000.
Work would include an overhaul of the playing surface, filling dips and holes. White said selectmen have balked at the price tag, and believed volunteer donations of time and machinery could be mustered to offset it.
The maintenance was not included in this year’s budget because the issues were not foreseen, according to White.
Aside from making the surface playable for youth leagues, the goal is to attract teenage and adult baseball leagues to use the field, White said.
Residents are expected to vote Aug. 31 on the figure selectmen set. White said for work to be completed in time for next spring’s season, the project would have to be approved as soon as possible.
Also on the table for discussion for future, voter-approved projects is a $10,650 energy-efficiency overhaul of the Town Office, garage and Fire Department. Work would include replacing windows, gaskets and filling an unused doorway at the garage, installing insulation at the Town Office and purchasing a hot-water heater for the Fire Department.
