Banjos to bagpipes Countryfolk Music Theatre plans weekend of traditional country and bluegrass music


DIXFIELD – The Countryfolk Music Theatre on Route 2 will host its sixth annual Youth Music Scholarship weekend July 27, 28, 29. National Cowboy Day will be celebrated on the 28th, with six bluegrass bands performing from 10a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by traditional country and gospel music bands and solo performers until 8 p.m., Maine Hall of Famer Ginger Mae’s Country Comedy Roadshow will be featured from 8 to 9 p.m. Saturday, followed by a dance with Ed Bronish and friends from 9 to 11 p.m..

Sunday, July 29, will feature a pot luck meal, bagpiper Jeff Herbster of Brunswick, the presentation of youth music scholarships; volunteer, musician and songwriter recognitions; special guest performer Ken Wentworth of Bangor and a country jam from noon to 6 p.m…

“We usually host 50-60 musicians for this project that supports youth music scholarships,” said Larry Bisbee of The Countryfolk Music Theatre. “We are so pleased to be conducting our eighth season of showcasing talented Maine country, bluegrass, folk and gospel youth and adult musicians from across the state.”

The Countryfolk Musicians and Songwriters minimuseum will be open all weekend with slideshows of Maine’s musicians dating from the 1930s to the ’90s, memorabilia and numerous photos.
