Bank announces scholarships


AUBURN – Mechanics Saving Bank is announcing its 2007 scholarship recipients from Edward Little High School. For more than 20 years, the bank has provided scholarships to assist high school graduates with their higher education tuitions and fees. This year, the bank’s scholarship donations to local and area high schools totaled $19,500.

Kristina E. Liguori, daughter of Cathy Liguori of Auburn, plans to major in occupational therapy at the University of Southern Maine. Liguori was a member of the National Honor Society, the mentor program and the girls’ indoor/outdoor track and field team, which she captained. In addition, she volunteered at Kids Day America and Kiddie Night and was a recipient of the 2007 L/A Foundation Laptop Award.

Joseph R. Gardner is the son of Pam and Roger Gardner of Auburn. In the fall, he will attend the New England School of Communications located on the Husson College campus in Bangor. He plans to major in digital media. Gardner played on the soccer team and was involved in school activities.

Trevor E. Pontbriand, son of Teri and Tom Pontbriand, will attend the University of Maine at Farmington where he plans to major in business management. Pontbriand was active in recreational sports, including basketball, football and baseball. He also served as a volunteer at the MPBN’s Great TV Auction.
