Barbara Ann Lafrance


LEWISTON – Barbara Ann Lafrance, 70, of Lewiston, died unexpectedly at her home Wednesday, July 18.

She was born in Portland on June 13, 1937, the daughter of Eugene and Ruth Carbee Gurney Sr. She was educated in Portland and Lewiston schools and attended Lewiston High School.

On Sept. 3, 1955, she married the love of her life, Richard Lafrance. He died on June 11. She was employed for many years at Bates College.

Among her interests were drawing, ceramics, the ocean, following the Lewiston Maineiacs as a great fan and spending time at the family camp in Bridgton. Her greatest pleasure in life, however, was the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed, but always remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

She is survived by her two children, daughter, Nancy Mancine, and her husband, George, of Lewiston and son, Tim Lafrance, and his wife, Christina, of Lewiston; five grandchildren, Christian Hussey, and his wife, Amy, of Livermore, Jason Hussey, and his girlfriend, Corey Cunningham, of New Hampshire, Jonathan Mancine of Lewiston and Angela and Samantha Lafrance of Lewiston; one great-grandson, Joel Hussey; and one future great-grandson, Brody Hussey; her sister, Judith Jumper, and her husband, David, of Lewiston; several nieces and nephews; and many Gurney cousins from Maine to Ohio.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Lafrance June 11; one grandson, Matthew Lafrance; and two brothers, Eugene Gurney Jr. and Dennis Gurney.
