FARMINGTON — Barbara E. Johnson, 72, a former resident of Jay, died Sunday, April 25, at Sandy River Nursing Home, surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born May 26, 1937, in Belfast, the daughter of Frank McAvey Sr. and Rachel (Boardman) McAvey. She was a graduate of Belfast High School and also attended Faith School of Theology in Old Orchard.
On June 5, 1965 in Biddeford, she married Kenneth M. Johnson Sr. He died unexpectedly Dec. 25, 1983. She worked for G.H. Bass Shoe Co. for many years. She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Livermore Falls. She enjoyed reading the Bible, crocheting, and baking bread. She was very strong in her faith and she was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Johnson Jr. and his wife, Fawn, of Keota, Iowa; two daughters, Cynthia Peart and her husband, Keith, of Jay and Reta Dumas and her significant other, Scott Kaufman, of Pittston; five grandchildren, Austin Brawdy, Dustin and Dakota Debrower, Danielle and Kendra Peart; two sisters, Florence Hickey of Massachusetts, and Hazel Bucklin of Belfast.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank McAvey Jr. and Jack McAvey; and two sisters, Dorothy Votra and Helen Pelletier.
