Barnies drops in 1,000th point

AUBURN – Senior Troy Barnies hit a short jumper mid-way through the third period to top 1,000 career points to help lead Edward Little past Brunswick 50-39 in boys’ KVAC basketball action.

Barnies finished with a game-high 21 points for the unbeaten Red Eddies (13-0). Tight defense gave Edward Little a 24-13 halftime edge.

Junior Ben Hartnett poured in 15 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Brunswick’s Corey Underwood kept the Dragons (7-6) close with a team-high 17 points and four 3-pointers before the Red Eddies distanced themselves. Travis O’Dell also contributed with 13 points for Brunswick.

Lisbon 54, Madison 50

MADISON – Lisbon recovered from a 10-point halftime deficit to record its first victory of the season with a 54-50 triumph over Madison.

The Greyhounds (1-12) used a 19-10 outburst in the third quarter to claw their way back. Lisbon led most of the final quarter.

Steve Michaud led Lisbon with 14 points, while Zack Moan and Timothy Roy added 12 points each. Ezra Gourley scored a game-high 24 points for Madison (1-12).

Boothbay 47, Mountain Valley 41

BOOTHBAY – Boothbay used some precise free-throw shooting late in the fourth quarter to seal a victory in a back-and-forth boys’ MVC clash, downing Mountain Valley 47-41 Thursday night.

Roy Arsenault led Boothbay with 16 points while Kris Noonan chipped in with 15 and a game-high 12 boards.

Trailing 26-21 at the half, Mountain Valley took the lead through three quarters on some sharp shooting from senior Andy Shorey, who finished with a game-high 26 points.

Camden Hills 84, Oak Hill 55

WALES – Christian Pieri led all players with 16 points, and Nick Woodon added 15, including one 3-pointer, to lift Camden Hills to a convincing 84-55 win over Oak Hill on Thursday.

Jared Mitchell added 10 for the Windjammers (11-3).

Kory Vanek led all Raiders with nine points, while Nick Brown led three players with eight points. Brown also added six boards and three steals for the Raiders (1-13).

Winthrop 60, Mt. Abram 37

SALEM – Sam Leclerc scored 16 points and Ezra Damm added 11 points to lead Winthrop to a 60-37 victory over Mt. Abram.

The Roadrunners (3-10) led for a quarter, but Winthrop (12-1) pulled away in the middle two quarters. Mike Gringras chipped in with 10 points for Winthrop. Wyatt Jackson led Mt. Abram with 13 points, and Noah Tranten had six on a pair of 3-pointers.

Yarmouth 50, G-NG 45

GRAY – Yarmouth hit its free throws down the stretch to keep Gray-New Gloucester at bay in a 50-45 victory.

The Clippers (8-6) led 28-23 after three quarters and maintained the cushion by hitting 15 of 25 from the line in the final eight minutes.

Lucas Denning and Johnny Murphy led Yarmouth 13 points apiece. Jordan Hebert scored 12 and Cody Humphrey had 11 for the Patriots (3-11).

Maranacook 70, Waterville 43

WATERVILLE – Maranacook had 10 different players hit the scoring column as the Black Bears cruised to a 70-43 drudging of Waterville in boys’ KVAC basketball.

Maranacook built an early lead, 23-8, after one quarter and 46-13 at halftime and never looked back. Junior Ryan Martin led all scorers with 19 points, and senior Kevin Leary added 11 for the Black Bears (13-1). Isaac Webb and Paul Johnston each tallied eight points for Waterville (1-13).

Girls’ basketball

EL 52, Brunswick 45

BRUNSWICK – Brittany French and Kristen Prue combined to go 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final minute of play to help Edward Little hold off Brunswick, 52-45, in KVAC basketball action Thursday.

Allie Forgues led the Eddies (8-5) with 14 points, including three from beyond the arc. French added 12 in the win, and Kelsey Nicolas finished with 10.Claire Baecher was the only Dragons player in double-figures, hitting for 12 points.

St. Dom’s 44, Poland 36

LEWISTON – St. Dom’s used a strong third quarter, outscoring Poland 12-3 to pull away for a 44-36 victory in girls’ basketball.

Senior Abby Gilbert led the Saints (7-6) with 13 points, and classmate Laura Anderson added eight for the victory.

Each tossed in one of the teams five 3-pointers. Katie Landry, Hannah Beaulieu and Noelle Duncanson each recorded the other long shots.

Paige Piper paced the Knights (4-9) with 12 points, while Kacie Ford and Jenn Dionne combined for 19.

Gardiner 62, Leavitt 52

TURNER – Gardiner outscored Leavitt 24-12 in the third quarter en route to a 62-52 victory in girls’ KVAC basketball.

Leading 27-25 at halftime, Gardiner put on the pressure and got balanced scoring. Brittany Salley led the Tigers with 15 points, while Kitty Weymouth and Chelsea Striker combined for 26 points for Gardiner (4-9).

Paige Dyer led all scorers with 19 points, while teammate Kelsey Baril added 10 for the Hornets (3-11).

Camden Hills 56, Oak Hill 40

CAMDEN – Allie Parent poured in 18 points and Kate Fetterman hit for 13 more as Camden Hills rolled to a 56-40 win over visiting Oak Hill on Thursday.

The Windjammers (10-3) held the Raiders (2-11) scoreless in the first quarter, and held a 26-10 advantage at the half.

Emily Sabine led the Oak Hill effort with 12 points and eight rebounds, and Ashley Labrie chipped in with nine points and nine boards.
