WALES — Barry C. Johnson, 66, a resident of Pond Road in Wales, passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Lewiston on Aug. 1, 1947, the son of Cecil and Marion Sherman Johnson. He attended Wales schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1965. He also graduated from Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Auburn for electrical technology. On July 18, 1970, Barry and Alicia J. Ames were married in Wales.

Barry worked as an electrician at E.R. Field in Lewiston and Bath Iron Works; he then went to work for Don’s Electric in Monmouth, eventually buying the business from Don Ham in 1978. He recently retired, but the “family” business will continue on with his wife, Alicia, his sons, Mike and Shawn, and daughter-in-law, Donna.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing; he loved going to sporting events for his sons, then the grandchildren when they came along, also attending all of their sporting events. He enjoyed his camp on Moosehead Lake and attending the annual sea plane fly-in, and loved going to New Hampshire with Alicia to attend the Lupine Festival and the Lancaster Fair.

He was a member of the Monmouth Fish and Game. Barry was a former Monmouth Little League baseball coach and he coached both of his sons. He was a former member of the Wales Fire Department and Wales Grange; he also belonged to the Wales Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and a youth leader.

Barry’s best pal, Remy, went to work with him everyday; even after Barry retired, Remy still wanted to go to work, so Barry and Remy went to work with Alicia and the boys each day. What a great pal Remy was to Barry!

He is survived by his wife, Alicia Johnson, of Wales; two sons, Shawn Johnson and his fiancée, Michelle, of South Paris and Mike Johnson and his wife, Donna, of West Gardiner; three brothers, Larry and Ann Johnson of Florence, Ariz., Darryl and Karen Johnson of Wales and Greg Johnson of Wales; a sister, Rosemary Johnson, of Wales; his father-in-law, Elmer Ames, of Litchfield; five grandchildren, Rebecca, Aryn, Sarah, Arianna and Michael; in-laws, Doug and Mae Ames of Litchfield; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; and his dog, Remy.

Barry was predeceased by his parents; his mother-in-law, Mary Ames; and his dog, Norm.
