Basketball: Y wins Ararat tourney


TOPSHAM — The Auburn/Lewiston YMCA boys’ third and fourth-grade travel team won the Ararat Youth Basketball Tournament this past weekend, defeating Brunswick, Boothbay and Cumberland to clinch the championship.

Giles Paradie led the Y in the opener against Brunswick, tossing in 10 points. Austin Brown and Storm Jipson added six apiece. Corey Wiers (three points), Max Creaser (three) and Joel Stubbs, Ethan Chute and Joey Vallee (two each) contributed to the balanced attack.

Brown led the charge against Boothbay with 20 points. Stubbs was next with eight, followed by Dan Milks with four. \Vallee, \Jipson and \Creaser had two apiece in the win.

In the championship gamem, eight of 10 players scored for the winners. Austin Brown exploded for 27 points. Joel Stubbs contributed eight points. Paradie,  Milks, Wiers and Creaser had four points apiece, while Chute added three points and Joey Vallee had one.
