AUBURN — The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA won the Central Maine Basketball League championship for the sixth-grade boys’ division. The championship game over a tough Gardiner team capped a great weekend of basketball for the YMCA team.
Ben English and Tyler Morin were the top scorers for the weekend with 22 points each. Grant Hartley was next with 17 points and strong center position play. Jacob Kyajohnian and Patrick Luizzo both added 14 points along with some tough defense. Tyler Swanbeck scored 13 points, including 10 in the pivotal championship game.
Jahlen Coney added a strong 12 points and multiple rebounds and blocks. Tyler Libby contributed 11 points, including two long-range 3-point shots. Jahvon Coney and Abdul Mohamed added five points and two points, respectively, along with great hustle and defense.
Absent from the games due to injury was Richard Thurston. Richard had a great season and provided solid play from the guard positon.
The championship game win capped an undefeated season that saw the team win many close games against some strong competition. The team would like to thank the Auburn Lewiston YMCA for a great season.
