Bates dance performance features guest artists

LEWISTON – The Bates College Modern Dance Company welcomes guest artists from Greater Portland’s dance community in an informal performance at 8 p.m. Friday in the Marcy Plavin Dance Studios, Merrill Gymnasium, second floor, 141 Russell St.

Titled “Short Term Studio Dance Concert ‘06” – Short Term is the college’s five-week spring semester – the event is open to the public at no charge. People should arrive early since seating is limited.

“The Modern Dance Company has participated quite regularly in events in southern Maine, and we’re very excited to be part of this informal performance network,” says Carol Dilley, director of the college’s dance program. “Our dancers have shared stages in performances at the New Studio and the Cassandra Project in Portland, at the Portland Stage Company, the Freeport Performing Arts Center, as well as here in Lewiston at the Franco-American Heritage Center.”

The program includes work by three pairs of Bates choreographers: Dilley and Bates senior S. Fisher Qua, sophomores Emma Arenstam and Alissa Horowitz, and junior Jess Baggia and senior Lauren Kawana.

Guest choreographers and performers include Louis Gervais, with dancers from Bowdoin College; Jill Eng, with dancers from Portland; and Corinne Cappelletti, with dancers from Portland.
