LEWISTON — The second annual Lewistunning Dragapalooza, a variety show of professional and amateur female and male impersonators, will be held Saturday, May 8 at Bates College.
The show is a fundraiser for Outright/Lewiston-Auburn, a program of Western Maine Community Action which provides safe, supportive environments for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth.
Lewistunning Dragapalooza will feature professional performers from southern Maine, including Shaunna Rai, Jelvis, Bunny Wonderland, Miss E’on and Leanna Love. Amateurs will have an opportunity to perform drag on-stage.
“Part of the importance of Outright is the need to give youth an experience of LGBT history,” said Penny Sargent, Outright-LA program coordinator. “The drag show has a long tradition that brings straight and gay together for entertainment. Not only is drag about history, it’s about building bridges across communities.”
“The show last year played to a packed house,” said Nancy Audet, WMCA Health Services program manager.
Tickets are $5 for students and seniors, $10 for adults. They may be purchased at WMCA Health Services, She Doesn’t Like Guthrie’s and Orbit Styling Salon. The variety show will be performed at 7 p.m. in Schaeffer Theater.
