BATH — Pitman-Morrison Post 7738 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its auxiliary were awarded a National Outstanding Community Service Post Award at the 116th VFW National Convention in Pittsburgh held Saturday, July 18, to Wednesday, July 22. The post sent three representatives, all veterans of either Iraq or Afghanistan, to receive the award in a small ceremony hosted at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
The award is presented annually to approximately 60 posts out of roughly 7,400 worldwide, placing Bath in elite company. Last year, the post donated over $32,000 to local veterans charities and the community and countless hours in service through various civic programs. The post has played a central role in advocating for veterans locally and across the nation by engaging various political leaders, serving on commissions and protesting the mistreatment of veterans by Department of Veterans Affairs employees.
The post is comprised of fewer than 100 members and less than 30 routinely participate in the activities. The post rents space from the Bath Knights of Columbus. Members are hoping this award will serve as a catalyst for recruitment.
