Beal chosen as Big Sister of Year
AUBURN – Anne Beal has been honored as Big Sister of the Year by the Child Health Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters community mentoring program.
Beal has been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters for more than 13 years. She was first matched in New Haven, Conn., where she remained matched for five years. In 1999 she joined the Child Health Center’s program in Maine.
Most recently she has joined the Child Health Center’s community mentoring program in Androscoggin County and was matched with her Little Sister of three years, Kelcey.
Beal said, “I started with the program in 1992 in New Haven, Conn., which is where I’m from. I still have contact with my little, Shanna. She and my newest little sister, Kelcey, were both in my wedding two years ago.”
Beal said that over her 13 years with the program she has seen that one person can really make a difference in someone’s life just by being there.
“I like the feeling of being a sister, and the close bond that we share. Every child has different needs, and sometimes having an extra caring adult to listen and be there can make a huge impact in their life.”
