ANGLEHOLM, Sweden – Lewiston Maineiacs goaltender Jonathan Bernier made 20 saves and Maineiacs forward Stefan Chaput had an assist to help Canada past Russia 4-1 in the quarterfinal round of the IIHF World Under-18 Championship on Wednesday.

Bernier, who has played in all five games for Team Canada, allowed just one power-play goal 9:29 into the game.

Through five games, the 17-year-old netminder has allowed just six goals on 126 shots, a .952 save percentage to go with a 1.20 goals-against average.

Chaput, meanwhile, has spent the majority of the tournament on the team’s “energy” line.

His assist was his first point in five games, during which he also has four shots and two penalty minutes.

Canada advances to today’s semifinal against Finland. The two teams tied, 0-0, in pool play. In that game, Bernier made 22 saves.
