JAY — Bethany M. Moore has been awarded an $8,000 four-year Fraternal College Scholarship in a national competition with other students who are members of Modern Woodmen of America. Modern Woodmen, a fraternal benefit society offering financial services, has local representatives and is based in Rock Island, Ill.
Moore, the daughter of Paul Moore and Rosemarie Freeman of Jay, plans to use the scholarship to attend Boston University.
Moore is one of 36 regional scholarship winners chosen this year. Selection is based on students’ personal and academic achievement, including the results of the American College Testing Program or the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Qualities of leadership and character and extracurricular activities were also judged.
Applications for the 2011-2012 Scholarhip Program will be taken in the fall of 2011.
