People in the Bethel area and beyond turned out Thursday night along Route 26 in Lockes Mills to pay their respects as a motorcade brought U.S. Marine Capt. Ben Cross to Bethel. Locally, groups also gathered in Bryant Pond and Bethel.
A hearse carrying the body of U.S. Marine Capt. Benjamin Cross is escorted along the Maine Turnpike on Thursday evening en route to his hometown of Bethel. Cross, 26, was an Osprey pilot based in Japan. He died Aug. 5 in the Coral Sea off the coast of Australia when the Osprey he was riding in crashed during a training exercise. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Telstar Regional High School, his alma mater. A committal with full military honors will be held at the Riverside Cemetery on North Road in Bethel.
