Betsy Sue Taylor


WILTON – Betsy Sue Taylor, 57, of Wilton, passed away at her residence on Saturday, July 7.

She was born in Syracuse, N.Y., May 7, 1950, the daughter of Howard B. and Betty (Smith) Mellen. She graduated from Winchester High School and attended North Eastern University for two years before joining the U.S. Army and serving in Okinawa, Fort Devens, Mass., and Fort Lee, Va., as a physical therapist assistant. She worked for the Medical Personnel Pool as a senior coordinator in New York She most recently worked for L.E.A.P. in Farmington, as a caregiver for mentally challenged individuals, through whom she met and became very close to her most recent client. She enjoyed camping, photography, music, swimming, canoeing, giving time to anyone who needed it and living to serve others. She also enjoyed traveling and weekends at camp on Sand Pond.

She is survived by her sister, Gail Ames and her husband, Robert, of Charlotte, N.C.; four brothers, Scott Mellen of New York, Gary Mellen of California, Daniel Mellen of North Carolina, and Mark Mellen of Vermont; several nieces and nephews; and several close friends, including Trudy Toothaker, who cared for her for the past few years.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, Rodney Taylor.
