A better use for police

I can’t help but notice that now Auburn police are going to be looking for people who go through things at the curb during spring cleanup. There are many things that could be recycled, but the city isn’t going to do that, it is just going for the scrap money.

The old adage, “Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without,” is more necessary during these economic down times than in the past. Some items are not junk, but a remodeling job has left them without a home. Granted, there are those who are not careful in looking for items and leave a mess and shame on them.

I think a better use of Auburn police would be to start catching the red light and stop sign runners and speeders. I know the money goes to the state, but the amount of citations that could be written would take the state out of debt and the state would be able to grant more money to the city.

I’m not talking about people going only 5 mph over the speed limit, but more like 15-20 mph over the limit. Court Street is a prime example. I think I saw Danica Patrick test-driving the other day in Auburn.
